Book Review - Seer of Souls

Over the course of the summer, I had a chance to meet Susan Faw in person while we were both attending the Elmvale Sci-Fi & Fantasy Street Party. It was there also that I picked up a copy of Seer of Souls to read since it had been on my TBR list for quite some time.

Without giving too much of the plot away, the story focuses around twins Cayden and Avery who are the object of an ancient prophecy involving a struggle for the control of the souls of the dead. There may also be a deity or three involved in the fate of these two youngsters. I won't say much more than that because part of what I really enjoyed about this book was the unique twists and turns in it that left me wanting to read more. The character development was well done, each one of them having a voice of their own.

The only nitpick I had with this book was that towards the end it felt like Avery's story came to a halt abruptly and events focused on Cayden, whereas earlier in the story everything seemed more spread out. I can't really judge though until I read the rest of the series, however, because the focus may shift in book two and three. Perhaps this is also me just wanting more of the story, which again is an indication of having enjoyed it.

Overall, a fantastic debut to the series that I found highly original in storytelling. I recommend it to fantasy fans of all ages.
