Post-Con Thoughts - Fan Expo 2019

I'm a little late with getting on with this one and I don't have anyone to blame but myself. The only real reason I can give is that I'm still somewhat in recovery mode after having completed and published Q-16 and the Fury of Korangar, the third novel in the Q-16 series. Also, having started a new full-time job (sadly I don't yet belong to the percentage of authors whose soul career is writing, but one day maybe I'll get there).

Or I suppose I could blame life with having become much busier of late with kitchen renovations, a trip to Vancouver Island, being distracted with beginning to work on the fourth Q-16 novel and of course, my website and graphic design business that I started with my partner in crime Chris called Rampant Wolf Media. There is also another project I am secretly working on along with all of these going on, but for now, I can't say much except that you will all know about it when the time comes.

To me, Fan Expo is in a way the closing off of a season of busy weekend author outings to events, book fairs and such though, this year there is still Word on the Street. It is the most significant event I do by far, and I can't really imagine a year in which I don't do it at this point. This year, I was joined once again joined by fellow author Brandon Draga and his wife and illustrator Deanna Draga at what has for a few years now been called the GTA Indie Fantasy table and the table to our right was also occupied by various authors each day from the Writers' Community of York Region.

This year's Fan Expo has left me with a sense of wanting to go beyond just being an author at the table and to expanding outside of my comfort zone for next year. This isn't to say that I'll quit writing or anything, but I've been toying with ideas on how to bring more to the table. I am a graphic designer by trade after all, aren't I? I can't say what I'm planning, and you'll have to wait till next year to find out.
